This distinguished American pianist has appeared in concerts and recitals throughout Europe and the United States to critical acclaim and great public success. In recent years he travelled extensively appearing in Vienna, St. Petersburg, Paris, Mexico, Beijing, Shanghai, South Korea and Hawaii. In London he recorded the Liszt Piano Concerto in E flat with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, and this proved to be one of the top purchasing choices for this work in the United States . In London again, this time for the Concert Artist label, Nicholas Zumbro recorded the Samuel Barber and Charles Ives Sonatas and the complete Goyescas of Granados.

Earlier in his career Nicholas Zumbro triumphed in giving historic premieres of Ives' "Concord Sonata" in many European cities, including Amsterdam , Berlin , Munich , Salzburg , Milan and Athens .  The critics were quick to follow the Amsterdam press comments and see in him as the "the ideal Interpreter" of this outstanding work of the twentieth century. The London Times summed up the critics generally by writing of the artist’s "Heroic force...Superb assurance and Boundless energy".  The year 2004 brings with it the 50th Anniversary of the death of Charles Ives. To mark this anniversary Nicholas Zumbro will be again programming the “Concord Sonata” in a number of commemorative recitals. His opening concert in this special series will be in the Athens Great Concert Hall in October.

This “boundless energy” has served him well as he devotes much time to teaching as well as public appearances. A noted performer and teacher.  Professor Zumbro is a senior professor at the University of Arizona having taught previously on the faculties of the Juilliard School , the Indiana University, University of Hawaii , and both in Greece and England . He has also directed the Pacific Piano Symposium and the Festival of the Arts of this Century in Honolulu . As a composer, his catalogue is expanding, and his works include Music for Hippolytus and the Greek opera “Kassandra”, which received its premiere in Athens in 1990.

Zumbro has an enviable pedigree having been trained in Paris and later at the Juilliard School . Among his many distinguished teachers were Rosina Lhevinne, Nicolas Slonimsky, Nadia Boulanger, Max Deutsch, Yvonne LeFebure, Johana Harris, Wolfgang Rose and Josef Gingold. He was awarded French Government Grants and a Debussy Prize.
